A group of folks at Team One decided to participate in #30daysofcreativity with each person taking a day making something. This was my submission: giving new life to some solid-color tshirts.

A couple of years ago, I discovered (quite by accident), a great second use for Clorox bleach pens: They can create some pretty cool one-of-a-kind DIY tshirts.

Here’s how to go about it: Start with a colored tshirt - cotton or another natural fiber. (Today I used two shirts that I already had and needed a second life, and a men’s size Large Hanes V-Neck that I picked up from Target). Lay it out flat and insert a piece of cardboard or plastic grocery bags in between the front and back layers. Make sure that you’re not near any carpet and that you have on clothes that won’t get ruined. Before you start putting bleach to fabric, turn on the washing machine to fill with cold water so that when it’s time, you lessen the risk of a lot of transfer if you were to put the shirt into an empty washer. Make sure that you shake the pen really well and then go for it - unleash your creativity! Don’t try to be a perfectionist. When you’re done putting bleach to fabric you don’t want to let it set for too long because it will start degrading the fabric. Slide the plastic bags or cardboard out from the inside of the shirt and drop it into the wash.  When it comes out, you should have a unique new tshirt!

Come find me around the Team One office tomorrow, I’ll be sporting the once solid khaki colored tshirt and you can see the after version.
